Aotea Almanac

Ngāhuru on the farm |
|
| In the Maramataka, Ngāhuru (Autumn) marks the season of harvest and preparation.
At Aotea, skincare doesn’t begin in a lab. It begins with our hands in the soil. As we clear the north-facing blocks for June’s planting, we’re also gathering the last of summer. Heat and light have done their work, bringing the plants to their highest concentration. This is where our formulations begin. |
We work the land to allow the land to work. Clearing scrub now ensures nutrient-dense soil for the next generation of Mānuka.
“People think harvest is the end. But the tail end of summer is when the oil is at its most potent. The heat has drawn the essence out - it’s the most powerful the plants will be all year.”
— Tim, Aotea Farm Lead.
The oil coming off our stills in Ngāhuru is richer, more concentrated. We time this while the summer’s energy is at its most distilled.
Mānuka Honey Mask
From this harvest comes our Mānuka Honey Mask - formulated with honey collected at summer's end, naturally rich in MGO.
