Yes, all our products are formulated using natural ingredients with sensitive skin types in mind. We recommend patch testing on a small area on the back of the hand for extra sensitive skin.

• Are Aotea products tested on animals?
No, Aotea products have never been tested on animals.

No, all ingredients are derived from natural sources, including the ingredients used to scent our products.

• What is the shelf life of Aotea products?
All Aotea products are formulated with natural ingredients, including our preservatives, giving them a shelf life of 3 years.

• How should I store my products?
We recommend storing products out of direct sunlight in a cool, dark place. Lids should always be closed after use, and the bottle should be stored upright.

Our box packaging and jars are all recyclable.

We are currently working towards circular solutions to encourage the reuse of our packaging. Refill services will be offered in the foreseeable future.

Yes, we use compostable bags provided by r3pack, a New Zealand owned business. Each bag is made with corn starch, PLA, and PBAT, and uses non-toxic inks as a natural alternative to traditional plastic-based courier bags.

• Does Aotea support any community initiatives or donate money to charities?
Yes, we are proud to say that for every year we have been in business, we have provided scholarships to our rangatahi Māori (Māori youth) from Aotea to attend high school, and we are in the process of creating more jobs for whānau on the island.

All Aotea products are handmade on Aotea (Great Barrier Island) New Zealand using native flora grown, harvested, extracted, and bottled by our team. Our ingredients are predominantly natural, with a focus on organic sources whenever feasible. While we prioritize organic ingredients, it's essential to acknowledge that not all can be certified organic due to being wild-harvested, reflecting the unique nature of our island-based production process.

The Aotea Hand & Body Care Pack contains:

1 x Mānuka Hand & Body Wash 

A gentle wash to effectively cleanse your skin without stripping the natural barrier. The Manuka plant is native to New Zealand and contains β-Triketones. These active ingredients are potent antibacterial and antifungal agents, which makes them the perfect addition to a hand and body wash. Also included in this formulation is Kūmarahou, which is also a plant native to New Zealand that mainly grows in the upper North Island. Kūmarahou flowers and leaves contain saponins, which are natural surfactants that produce a foamy lather, which can gently cleanse your hands and your body without using the harsh chemicals that are often found in soaps.

1 x Harakeke Hand & Body Cream

A rich and nourishing cream designed to replenish the skin and reduce inflammation. Harakeke is a flax species that is native to New Zealand. The oil from Harakeke seeds is rich in Linoleic acid and Omegas 3, 6, and 9, which helps to lock in the moisture and nourish the skin, keeping it feeling smooth and supple. Also included in this formulation is Manuka, which is another plant native to New Zealand. Manuka contains active ingredients that are potent antibacterial and antifungal agents, which makes them a perfect addition to a hand and body cream.

Uses & Directions

Uses

Kūmarahou and Mānuka Hand & Body Wash

  • gentle and soft hand and body wash
  • suitable for all skin types including sensitive skin types
  • naturally cleanses without stripping the skin of its natural oils
  • fresh mānuka scent

Harakeke Seed Oil and Mānuka Water Hand & Body Cream

  • a rich and nourishing hand and body cream
  • designed to moisturise the skin while reducing inflammation and balancing PH levels
  • suitable for sensitive/dry/normal skin types

Directions

Dispense 1 pump of soap on your hands, lather, and rinse thoroughly. If using it as a body wash, dispense 2 pumps and massage onto the skin from the neck down then rinse thoroughly.

Once you have dried your hands or body, dispense 1-2 pumps of the hand and body cream and massage into the skin, concentrating on dry areas.

Harakeke

Harakeke seed oil is rich in omega 3,6 & 9 fatty acids. These fatty acids are nourishing topically for the skin and have been shown to restore depleted cell ingredients for the skin.

Moisturising Anti-ageing

Mānuka

Like our other inputs, our Mānuka oil is extracted onsite at our farm. The oil is used extensively in our range exhibiting anti-microbial and healing qualities. We also use Mānuka hydrosol which is a by-product of our distillation process that closes pores in the skin and is incredibly restorative.

Antibacterial Antifungal Antiseptic

Kūmarahou

The kūmarahou flowers contain saponins, which are natural surfactants that produce a foamy lather, which can gently cleanse your hands and body without using the harsh chemicals normally found in soaps to create foam.
