What is Psoriasis and eczema?
Our range of therapeutic skincare is deeply nourishing and can help treat a range of skin conditions, including psoriasis and eczema.
Psoriasis and eczema are both chronic inflammatory skin conditions that can flare up intermittently. Both conditions can cause red, inflamed skin with raised patches that can be itchy and painful. However, psoriasis typically causes thicker, scaly patches of skin, while eczema tends to cause more weeping or crusting of the skin.
Psoriasis is an autoimmune disorder caused by an overactive immune system that mistakenly attacks healthy skin cells, leading to a rapid buildup of skin cells. Psoriasis and eczema can both be caused by a combination of genetic and environmental factors. Flare ups can be triggered by stress, infections, or exposure to allergens or irritants.
Although these skin conditions are chronic, the use of skincare can help manage and reduce the frequency and severity of flare-ups. We recommend using our kawakawa balm to soothe and treat Psoriasis and eczema symptoms.
Kawakawa leaves are incredibly healing and research shows that it decreases inflammatory markers of nitric oxide. Kawakawa contains two active chemical compounds, Myristicin and Diayangambin. Myristicin is psychoactive and anti-inflammatory. Diayangambin is an immunosuppressant, which means it is a useful treatment for autoimmune disorders, such as Psoriasis and eczema. When our kawakawa balm is applied to damaged skin, these bioactives seep into the inflamed tissue to reduce swelling and aid the healing process. Furthermore, the beeswax creates a natural protective seal whilst the mānuka oil is deeply cleansing.
